With its identity management solution, TURBINE addresses a broad scope of application domains: eGovernment, eHealth, eID, eBanking, physical access control, and mobile telecommunications.
To demonstrate the performance and security of its solution, TURBINE has set up two comprehensive application oriented demonstrator environments:
- The first demonstrator features a typical example in the health-care telematics domain, where a pharmacist uses his/her health professional card (HPC) for storing several pseudo-identities to be used for different authentication purposes (e.g. converting an electronic prescription, log into a portal for health professionals or into the site of a pharmaceutical producer, etc.).
The demonstrator will show the different typical functionalities of TURBINE identity management technology in a simulated application environment: enrolment of a user, generation of multiple identities, storage of the identities on a smart card, access to different applications requiring different identities stored on a smart card using different levels of fingerprint, revocation of an identity, issuing of a new identity, and management of a new access to the application.
- The second demonstrator features an application in the domain of physical access control. In this case, the demonstrator will integrate and evaluate the TURBINE solution in a real environment at the Thessaloniki International Airport (TIA). Here the need is to manage access control of ground personnel to different areas of the airport, with different levels of security sensitivity (e.g. canteen, boarding area, real-time CCTV monitoring room). Access rights and privilege to specific restricted areas are represented by different pseudo-identities that are stored on a contactless smart card hold by the user. Access to a specific area is granted to the user after reading and checking both his/her fingerprint and his/her smart card.
In addition to the above demonstrators, other use cases are being analyzed and evaluated, such as mobile payment and Visa border control.
Furthermore, TURBINE has set up a User Advisory Board of experts from various application domains to advise the consortium on requirements of key sectors for identity management solutions.
